Hispanic Research Journal: New Screen Arts issue
2013 marks the launch of an annual Screen Arts issue of the Hispanic Research Journal. This exciting new development complements the existing Visual Arts issue and increases the journal to six issues a year.
The Screen Arts issue is the first issue of the volume, appearing in February each year. This annual peer-reviewed publication is dedicated to articles on film, TV, photography, internet and other digital media in the Iberian and Latin American world. It is edited by Professor Rob Stone (University of Birmingham) who works in close collaboration with the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Professor Trevor Dadson (Queen Mary, University of London). Articles can be in English, Spanish, Catalan or Portuguese.
The first Screen Arts issue (14.1) is dedicated to Lusophone Cinemas and is guest-edited by Professor Else R P Vieira (Queen Mary, University of London). It brings together the cinemas of the Portuguese-speaking world and presents new readings of celebrated Lusophone auteurs across three continents, namely Africa (Guinean Flora Gomes), Latin America (Brazilian Glauber Rocha) and Europe (Portuguese Manoel de Oliveira and Margarida Cardoso). There are also interviews with leading Lusophone film directors Margarida Cardoso, Teresa Prata, and Francisco Manso.
Screen Arts II will be devoted to Spanish Contemporary Cinema, guest-edited by Professor Fernando Canet (University of Valencia).
Trevor Dadson, editor of Hispanic Research Journal comments “HRJ is proud to announce the launch of its new Screen Arts issue, which will be the first issue each year of the journal. Together with the very successful Visual Arts issue (number 5 each year), this will make Hispanic Research Journal unique in the world of publishing - the first hispanic studies journal to have issues dedicated to film, TV, internet, digital media, art history, and visual arts. These developments recognise the vitality and creativity of our discipline and the innovative work of our colleagues who are constantly moving into new areas of research.”
